Its hard to say which one is more popular, pacman or miss pacman. I think Ms Pacman is a really cool game, love playing that one, as it has nice additions to it compared to the original. It was created by Namco, and Midway got the license to distribute it across the united states. Good business move on their part, a real savvy gaming company they are. It broke onto the scene in 1980, a couple years after the release of space invaders. It became an instant classic. Just like with space invaders, it became a social phenomenon which attracted millions of followers, and millions of dollars for its japanese programmers. You can get pacman hats, tshirts, beer mugs, and everything. When it first came out, the games that were out were space shooters. You also had another breed of games which were spins on the pong game. Its success came from developing a whole new style, a new genre. Its often given recognition as being a turning point, and did you know that 94% of all Americans have heard of it? Thats a very high number, I don't even think 50% have heard of the world of warcraft game, when you take into account all the older folks. Then you have Ms Pacman, which was released just a couple years later. Of course it rode the wave of popularity and won a place in the hearts of female gamers everywhere. We salute you pacman, as being the coolest game ever. |
